EXHIBITION. Mammoth Improved is the perfect exhibition onion because it can be grown to over 2.5kg in weight, and has a lovely uniform shape to the bulb.
Paris Silverskin onions are easy to grow and have a dual purpose. If you like a good size bulb on "spring" onions pull them young or leave to mature and crop as small onions for pickling.
Onion Red Baron is a beautiful deep blood red coloured onion with slightly flattened globe shaped bulbs that will keep into the new year. It has late maincrop maturity with good skin and thin necks.
Red Brunswick onion seeds. These are late maturing semi flat bulbs of dark red. They are overall, medium to large in size with excellent mild but pungent flavour.They are very decorative when sliced across the bulb to reveal which and red rings,so are ideal fresh in salads or cooked with pasta.
Onion Tosca produces a torpedo shaped onion with yellow to brown skins. This particular variety has excellent flavour and is suitable for winter storage.
You Qing Choi F1 is packed full of excellent flavour with an appearance of dark green leaves with the traditional cylindrical shape and the "spoon" shaped petioles. It is a club root tolerant variety and the heads can get to a weight of 200g.
A favourite for the show bench, Hollow Crown Parsnip is one of the oldest varieties with its long tapering roots of nice white skin and well textured flesh. This variety does however need good deep soil for the best results.
STAR BUY. Selected and maintained on our farm, Imperial Crown is chosen for its long smooth roots but with a small crown. This variety has an excellent sweet flavour and crunchy texture. Because of its uniformity it makes for a good exhibition variety.
