Chicory Rossa di Treviso

Chicory seeds - Rossa di Treviso

Long pointed leaves. Foliage green in summer, turns red in cold weather. Sow broadcast or in thin rows, June-July. Roots can be forced to make the shoots paler and more tender. Dig entire root and force like Witloof. Very ancient variety recorded in the 16th century. Seeds by Suffolk Herbs.

In the UK the name Radicchio is used to describe the red and variegated leaved chicories which are relatively new here. Suffolk Herbs introduced Radicchio many years ago and they have really gained in popularity. Radicchio are not only an indispensable new flavour in salad but their beautiful red and pink inner leaves form a most decorative garnish.
