Additional Details

When to sow

April to May or June to August.

Plant out

May to July

Where to sow

Sowings can be made in trays or modules under glass at 13°C. Later sowings can be made into a seed bed in shallow drills 2cm (3/4") deep in short rows.

What to do next

As soon as glasshouse seedlings show their first pair of leaves, prick off into trays 5cm (2") apart or thin modules to one seedling per cell. Gradually harden off before planting out, spacing plants 45cm (18") apart, and with 45cm between each row. Outdoor sowings should be thinned to 7-10cm apart, and then when the plants have reached 15cm in height, transplant them to their final flowering position.

Harvest

July to end of October/early November. Although, it's best to cut before the flowers open.

Handy Tip

Keep plants well watered during very dry weather especially as heads start to form. Cut before the flowers open. If you have too many, cut and freeze for later use.

Nutritional Values
