When to Sow Scabious Tall Double Seeds

Where to Sow

Outdoors where they are required to flower in shallow drills in rows 30cm (12") apart in well cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine crumbly structure.

What to do Next

Thin out seedlings when large enough to handle to 5-30cm (6-12") apart. Alternatively, sow 1-2 seeds per modular tray, sown undercover filled with seed compost and lightly cover the seeds with sieved compost or vermiculite. Place at a temperature of 18-25°C (65-75°F). Once hardened off they can be planted out after all risk of frost.

Handy Tip

Plant in borders where they will get a gentle breeze. This will allow the tall stems to add some movement in your garden. Cut stems should be plunged into deep water immediately to prolong vase life.
