When to Sow Amaranthus Velvet Curtains Seeds

Sow from March to May, and plant out May to June.

Flowers

July to September

Where to Sow

Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place in a propagator or warm place and keep at a temperature of between 20-25°C (68-77°F).

What to do Next

When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into modular trays or pots. Grow on and gradually once the risk of frost has passed.

Handy Tip

If using fresh, plunge stems into water as soon as cut to prolong vase life. For dried stems, hang stems upside down in a cool, dark, airy, dry place. Once fully dry (typically after a couple of weeks) they can be used in wreaths or dried flower arrangements.
