When to Sow

Sow March and April. Plant out May to June. Harvest from July onwards

Where to Sow

Sow the seeds under glass at 0.5cm deep in small trays of compost and lightly cover the seeds with a sprinkling of compost. Place at a temperature of 15C.

What to do Next

Prick out seedlings individdually into 7cm (3") pots once they are large enough to handle. Grow on in coolder conditions, then gradually harden off in a cold frame before planting out. Do not plant out if there is a risk of frost. Transplant into the final growing position with 30cm spacings between each plant, or into large containers. Cut the leaves as required. It's best to cut a few leaves from each plant so that they will regrow quickly.

Handy Tip

Water plants regularly during hot weather. Sorrel grows best in water retentive soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. When cooking, do not use cast iron or aliminium cookware as this can taint the flavour.
